****************************** Cliffs of Kashmir v2 A map for Total Annihilation by SlowHandd ****************************** This map is similar to Cliffs of Kashmir v1a, but has a different center. ----------------------------- Mem Required: 16 mb (Anni 1.5 reports 11 mb) Dimensions: 16x16 Players: 4 Starting positions: 4 2 1 3 Tileset: Earth Desert & Enhanced Desert Custom AI included in the map: Core and Arm Required files: EarthMetal.hpi (included in the zip) TA:CC Desert_51 feature set (Can be found in TamecXxxxx.hpi) All files are found at www.tamec.org ---------------------------------- Kashmir Kashmir (kàshmêr´), disputed territory, S Asia, administered since 1972 as the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir (1991 pop. 7,718,000; c.54,000 sq mi/139,900 sq km; capital Srinagar), the only predominantly Muslim Indian state, and the Pakistani Azad Kashmir (1981 est. pop. 1,980,000; c.32,000 sq mi/82,900 sq km; capital, Muzaffarabad). Known for its beauty, Kashmir is covered with lofty, rugged mountains, including sections of the HIMALAYAN and Karakorum ranges. The heart of the region is the Vale of Kashmir, where wheat and rice are grown. After years of Buddhist and Hindu rule, Kashmir was converted to Islam in the late 14th cent., and became part of the MOGUL empire in 1586. The British installed a Hindu prince as ruler in 1846. Since the partition of India in 1947, control of the territory has been contested by India and Pakistan (see INDIA-PAKISTAN WARS), with occasional interference by China. The present division of the territory was drawn up in 1972. In the late 1980s unrest grew in Indian Kashmir as Muslim militants, some supporting independence and others union with Pakistan, resorted to guerrilla attacks. In 1990 the region was placed under army rule in an attempt to suppress the insurgency; the army has used often brutal measures to maintain Indian rule. Arm plays the strongest, due to my experience with them, but Core plays fairly strong. This is an Air/Land ai. PLenty of aircraft will be built by either side. Keep some fighters in the air at all times and you won't have too tough of a time. The ai will build 1 Bertha or Intimidator. Core will build a Krogoth. You can use the ai in your maps, but you'll have to extract it from the ufo if you want to use it. However, I'd recommend that you wait until I get Core a little more polished. ------------------------------- Goals of the Map Hills, dude! Cliff warfare extraordinaire. If you like narrow routes and lots of tactically important locations, you'll like this map. Routes are direct, but hilly and narrow. Ore is spread thinly, but there are small clusters of large deposits providing strategic targets (mineral and energy collection fields). Yes! Ore paths lead to ore fields. The center of the map allows a way to surprise the enemy, escpecailly if you are playing pos 1 vs 2. If you think you have figured it out, write and I will confirm. Because of the tileset, it is recommended that you use player colors of Red, White, Yellow, or Blue. These show up best on the minimap. Medium intensity colors do not show up well. -------------------------------- Using the stacked cliff sections in your own map The set used here is Earth Desert, mainly the cliffs. A lot of work went into meshing the stacked cliffs. If you want to use the stacked cliffs for your own maps, you'll have to make your own set. To do this, select each cliff on the map then copy to pallette in Annihilator. All cliff sections fall on 512 grid lines. Make a group withing Earth Desert called stacked cliffs. Copy to pallete the stacked sections to this group, then save the tileset with the name Earth Desert, overiting the existing file (if you already have the set). You should also copy the bottom cliffs too because they have been remeshed for better contours. Remove the old Cliff sections first from Earth Desert. ----------------------------- Final Note: Of Special interest Included in the zip is a midi of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir". I know midi can't compare with the real Zep, but its pretty decent. If you have a good midi card, you might like it. Hope you do! ------------------- Author, Contact Info: date: 12/99 Len Goforth SlowHandd goforth@cyber-dyne.com
